blitzer also here in newtown. the president of the united states is on his way here right now to this community thrusted to the history books by a horrible act of violence. the president will meet with, try to comfort families of 20 school kids and six adults. we are all shot dead here friday morning. >> a short time ago got an update from the connecticut state police, learned more details about the person who carried out this mass shooting they can did confirm several details that they believed were true since friday. the shooter's name you of course what kind of weapons we had with him and just how many more bullets could have fired. the number is extraordinarily high. >> stay there. we are going to tell you exactly where police stand in their investigation and so many questions that certainly remain unanswered. these questions, i'm not sure we are ever going to get real answers to. >> yeah wolf, trying to piece this together as much as we can, as carefully as we can. president obama is en route to this small town now to join the people of knuten in their grief. greeft here

before but it's newtown. we don't know if there's any injuries but they are deploying units and cnn is sending crews and our affiliates are sending crews as well. they are en route to an elementary school in newtown. we are working our sources and our affiliates there in the area to try to figure out what is going on. as you know, law enforcement -- and we do here at cnn and all news organizations take it very seriously any time there are reports of a gun or shots fired at a school, elementary, junior high school, college, what have you. and that's what we are doing right now, checking on that for you. we're getting some information in. our producers are gathering it for us. we'll be back with the very latest on the other side of this break. don't go anywhere. , briefing reporters on what is going on. he, like the president of the united states on friday, choked back tears. this is a very sad day, of raw emotion here in newtown, connecticut, as families begin burying the children killed in the massacre at the sandy hook elementary school right down the road from where we are right now. we're watching all of this unfold, and the pain is clearly, clearly evident. while every day here in new town is sad, today, it's especially, it's especially sad. this afternoon, the first funerals were held for victims of the elementary school massacre. connecticut's governor, you just saw him here, he attended one of the services today, and he summed it up this way, and i'm quoting him, you see little coffins and your heart starts to ache. as this town and the nation tries to come to grips with this huge, huge tragedy, the investigation is focusing in on the question why. some of the answers may come from a computer found in the home where the gunman, adam lanza, lived with his mother. cnn's national correspondent deborah feyerick is keeping track of the latest de

this in the next day or two. i know that the community of new town is working with united way on this very subject as well and has set up a fund there. second, i've signed an executive order that will permit monroe and newtown to enter into an agreement concerni ining the us a monroe extra school they have, surplus school, that will allow that school to be used immediately and suspends some of the public notice aspects of entering into that agreement. obviously, this is an emergency. i was prepared to declare a separate emergency, but the reality is, we're still under hurricane sandy emergency so i used that as the basis to execute that executive order. third, i'm asking friday, december 21st, at 9:30 a.m., exactly one week after the horror began to unfold in newtown, that the entire state observe a moment of silence. i'd like to ask houses of worship with the ability to play bells to do so. 26 bells for the beautiful children and 6 wonderful adults who were killed at the school on that day. i'll be sending a letter of notification to all of the other governors through the nga to ask them to ask t

. just earlier this year. this is hard still, right? talk about in the united states congress as a political analyst, how much have things changed, democrats in world districts and some republicans can be moved to do something more dramatic than what was defeated in newtown earlier this year in your very blue state? >> a key question. there were firing ranges used by the lanzas and gun stores in the vicinity. i think the point here is that there is a real opportunity for common ground. both sides have a common stake if the pendulum swings and there is an opportunity now to do something common sensible and reasonable and a 30 round magazine for a combat style weapon & bearing those bullets when which ripped them apart and up to 11 of them in some victims. that has noplace in our society. the president said a state of these shootings. there may be opposition, but whether it's the nra and we don't need to talk about specific organizations, but one of them is based in newtown itself. the organization that i work closely with in trying to establish common ground back in the 1990s a
